Obituary -Raymond E Lyon

Raymond E. Lyon, 93, of Ottumwa died at 2:05 p.m. August 5, 2019 in Ottumwa.

He was born December 31, 1925 in Alva, OK to Ray Elmer and Ellen Bennett Lyon. Raymond married Grace Elizabeth Wix on August 26, 1946 and she preceded him in death on June 1, 2015.

At the age of 9 he moved from Freedom, OK to Gentry, AR and was a graduate of Gentry High School. He attended Ozark Christian College in Bentonville, AR and Joplin, MO. He helped start the Midwestern School of Evangelism in Ottumwa from where he graduated and served on the faculty. Raymond taught at Door Drive College of the Bible in Rutland, VT. He preached and held revival meetings all over the United States and traveled the world in various mission trips including England, Puerto Rico and Jamaica.

He attended Christ’s Church in Ottumwa and Abingdon Church of Christ in Abingdon. Raymond owned and operated Lyon’s Landscaping.

Surviving are two sons, Philip (Stephanie) Lyon and Craig Lyon both of Ottumwa; two daughters, Linda (Daniel) Wiese and Sarah Gullett both of Topeka, KS; 9 grandchildren, Raymond Lyon, James Lyon, Charity Dyer, Kandy Richard, Sean Wiese, Justin Wiese, Crystal Wiese, Dianna Burchett and Joy Gullett; 16 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Ruth Lyon of Lynn, MO and Elsie Fern Reimer of Topeka, KS.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Donald and John Lyon.

Funeral services will be 3:30p.m. Sunday, August 19, 2019s at the Schowengerdt Funeral Chapel, 1301 N. Orange St., Butler, MO 64730, with his son Phil Lyon, his grandson, Raymond Lyon and Dan Smith officiating.

Visitation with the family present will be 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. prior to the service at the church.

Memorials may be made to Summit Theological Seminary in Peru, IN.
