Escaped Inmate from North Dakota Captured In Cass County

Cass County Deputies and Pleasant Hill Police Officers assisted Kansas Law Enforcement to capture one of two subjects involved in an early morning vehicle pursuit.

Around 3:00 a.m., the Cass County Sheriff’s Office was notified that the Miami County Kansas Sheriff’s Office was pursuing a stolen vehicle involved in a theft in Allen County Kansas. The pursuit entered Cass County in Drexel and proceeded north to Harrisonville where deputies continued pursuing the black Infiniti QX80. The driver continue to drive at high rates of speed through Harrisonville north on 7 Highway towards Pleasant Hill.

Officers with the Pleasant Hill Police Department were able to successfully deploy a tire deflation device at the south city limits. The vehicle tires deflated and the driver stopped the vehicle in the area of 7 Highway and Broadway in Pleasant Hill. The driver and passenger then fled on foot into the surrounding area.

The vehicle was confirmed as stolen from Lexington Kentucky on October 4, 2019.


About 8:15 a.m., deputies responded to the area of 7 Highway and Myrtle Rd. after Pleasant Hill Officers reported that they were chasing one of the suspects on foot. Pleasant Hill Officers were able to take Dejon D. Johnson, 22, Fargo North Dakota into custody.

Johnson is an escaped inmate from the Department of Corrections, North Dakota and is wanted on multiple warrants including:


  • Flight-Escape Inmate, Fargo, North Dakota, No Bond
  • Theft/Shoplifting $5000 or more, Platte County Nebraska, Bond $5000.00
  • Retail Fraud 1st Degree, Gaylord Police, Michigan

Mr. Johnson is currently in the Cass County Jail. Charges related to this incident are pending.
A second subject has not been located. He is described as a light-skinned black male, wearing grey sweat pants and dark hoodie top.

Deputies and Officers checked the area for several hours this morning after it was reported a subject matching the description was seen near McDonald’s on 7 Highway, however he was not located.
