One arrested after incident in Belton

On the afternoon of 10-20-19, Belton police were dispatched to Hy-Vee on a shoplifting in progress. When the officer arrived, the suspect ran across the parking lot.

The officer reached the suspect as she was getting into her black Pontiac Grand Am. The officer was trying to pull the suspect from the vehicle but the suspect was able to start the vehicle and put the vehicle in reverse.

The officer was trapped in the open driver's door and was dragged backward. The suspect then pulled forward, dragging the officer several more feet before he fell to the ground. The officer was able to get up and return to his vehicle at which time a vehicle pursuit was initiated. During the pursuit, the suspect drove off road through yards and was involved in a crash with an innocent bystander.

The pursuit continued into south Kansas City where the suspect jumped from the moving vehicle and was taken into custody after a short foot pursuit. Both the suspect and the officer were treated and released at a local hospital.

On 10-21-19, the Cass County Prosecutor charged Talisha Muhammad of Grandview with 2nd Degree Assault on a law enforcement officer and Felony Resisting Arrest by Fleeing. Her bond has been set at $10,000 cash only.
