The Archie R-V School District will transition from 11-Man to 8-Man football in the 2020-21 school year.
The transition is a two year commitment at the end of which will be re-evaluated. This decision came after much discussion.
The primary reasons for the transition are student safety and decreasing student involvement in the sport. With the decreasing numbers of students participating in 11-Man football, the district would be forced to play students that would not be physically ready to compete at the varsity level.
The transition to an 8-Man format would allow the district to field a team that would face competition that is more commiserate with their own demographic hurdles. It is the districts desire to provide an opportunity for students to safely compete in all district sponsored athletics.
