Visitation is Tuesday, November 12, 2019 from 5:00-7:00pm at Vansant-Mills Funeral Home. Funeral service will be on Wednesday, November 13, 2019 at 10:30am at the Clinton Christian Church, Clinton, Missouri. Interment will follow at Englewood Cemetery, Clinton, Missouri. The family suggests memorial contributions to be made to the Clinton Christian Church and may be left in care of the funeral home.
Melvin Everett Young was born July 7, 1942 in Warrensburg, Missouri, son of Harry Everett Young and Clara Lee (Spry) Young. He was Baptized in May of 1954. He went to Enterprise (County School) for first and second grades and then schools consolidated to Urich. He graduated in 1960. Melvin married his sweetheart Vonna Lee Hendrix on July 4, 1960. Born to them while in Urich was David Everett Young, then Danny Wayne Young when they moved to Clinton.
Melvin worked at the Missouri Highway Department and Urich Elevator while in their first year of marriage, living in Urich. He went to work learning the upholstery trade from his father in law and worked for him for about 10 years. Moe and Vonna bought part of his family farm North of Urich and built a house and raised David and Danny there. They lived there until 1984 when they moved to Clinton due to Moe's health. They also owned Young's Skelly/Getty bulk gas business and Young's upholstery in Urich during the time they lived on the farm. He started up and supervised an upholstery department for Tracker Marine for 10 years. While there he was awarded the 1991 President Award by founder, Johnny Morris of Bass Pro-Tracker Marine. He served as Elder in Church at Urich and Clinton, and later Elder Emeritus at Clinton. Moe was a member of the Lion's Club, and a volunteer fireman at Urich, he was a life member of the Clinton Sunrise Optimist, received the 2001 MAHC volunteer award, 4-H, Urich Cemetery board, and the Missouri Cattleman Association.
Melvin was preceded in death by his brother, Benny, mother, Clara Lee, father, Harry Young, sisters, Betty Lee Doll and Maude Ann (Jim) Maynard.
Melvin is survived by his wife, Vonna, sister, Elaine (Ed) Turner, sons, David (Mary), and Danny (Ellen), grandchildren, Cole (Jessica), Collin (Sara), Danielle (Josh), Tanner (Sarah), Emily (Keefer) and Kerri, great-grandchildren, Brody and Aspen Hibdon, Dawson and Maren Young, Peyton and Dean Miller and Ensley, Lucca and Gabe Young.
