In the planning meeting at 5pm, there was heavy discussion regarding the city budget. Things are tight; department heads are carefully making requests for things deemed most important for now. Council members have indicated there will be many more hours of budget talk over the next few months. The public is always welcomed to attend.
The sale of the spec building at the Butler industrial park should be complete soon, Local Leaf will assume ownership and begin producing their medical marijuana product in the near future.
Filing for seats on the city council is now closed; several have added their names for the running. Mid America Live will provide more information about the candidates in the near future.
The contract with Morris Internet is nearly complete. The company will be placing antennas on the uptown water tower to provide a wireless internet solution, offering an option for anyone in Butler.
Discussion about the taxi situation continues- in the meantime, OATS has offered to fill the gap for senior transportation with some funding via the Senior Center from Care Connect to cover costs.
Concession stands at the ballparks will now be operated by band booster clubs, as in the past it was bid out with little interest. It will serve as a fundraiser for the boosters, while providing a much needed service. A true win-win for everyone.
Movement is being made regarding the park that never happened- or at least not yet. Equipment was purchased some time ago to furnish a park near the Fran Avenue Apartments, and work will begin soon make it a reality.
The 1 cent city tax increase, approved by voters last fall will officially kick in April 1st. Unfortunately, there will be a few months lag before the money actually hits the city's bank account as it must pass through the state's accounting system first.
