Obituary - James T. Carpenter

James T. “Jay” Carpenter, age 59, of Belton, Missouri, passed away surrounded by his loving family at the Olathe Medical Center.

A visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, January 31, 2020 at Cullen Funeral Home, 612 W. Foxwood Dr. Raymore, Missouri. A celebration of Jay’s life will be held at 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Jay was born in Corvallis, Oregon on August 7, 1960 to James O. Carpenter and Willa S. Fulkerson Carpenter. Growing up Jay had one sister, Sherie.

Jay lived all over the world during his childhood while his father was serving his country in the United States Air Force. Jay graduated from high school in 1978 from Frankfurt American High School in Frankfurt, Germany. Jay was an accomplished athlete. He was active in baseball, track, wrestling, and football. He participated in the Little League World Series with baseball and was inducted into the FAHS Sports Hall of Fame in 2014.

After graduating high school Jay attended Arizona State University, where he played football. His college football career was unfortunately cut short with a knee injury. Jay attended his final three years of college at the University of Missouri in Columbia where he earned a Bachelor's Degree in Political Science. By this time, his parents had returned from Europe and had retired in Belton, Missouri. Jay created for himself a successful career as a sales representative. Jay was a very kind, patient, and loving stepfather and uncle to Brad, Caleb, and Molly. He loved to find little gadgets for everyone at Christmas. Jay was blessed with wonderful friends that spanned many age groups. He loved visiting and spending time with his friends, especially the "NW Corner Club". Jay and Sherie shared a special relationship that lasted his lifetime... He will be greatly missed!

Jay was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Sue Carpenter.

He is survived by his wife, Cindy Carpenter; sister, Sherie Chevalier (Bruce); son, Bradley Mason; nephew, Caleb Chevalier; niece, Molly Chevalier; many aunts, uncles, and family members; and many more friends.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be given to the American Heart Association, 6800 93rd St., Overland Park, Kansas 66212.
