Obituary - Shirley Smith

Shirley Smith, age 78, of St. Elizabeth, passed away on Monday, February 10, 2020, at her home. She was born in Iberia on November 5, 1941, daughter of the late Milton and Opal (Duncan) Luttrell. On January 16, 1976, Shirley married Charles J. “Pete” Smith, who preceded her in death on July 12, 2000.

Shirley loved to fish and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. She was a member of Mt. Union Church of Christ.

She is survived by two sons, Brian Irwin of Butler and Brent Irwin of St. Elizabeth; daughter, Kim Dexter (Danny) of West Plains; two step-daughters, Carol Jean Shutt (Richard) and Christy; seven grandchildren, Hayden Irwin, Lane Irwin, Alysa Dexter, Allison Dexter, Shane Irwin, James Irwin, and Whitney Irwin; four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Patsy Rodden and Karen Barnett both of Brumley; and several nieces, nephews, family & friends.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by six sisters, Dorlas Gilliam, Alice Wooldridge, Rosemary Douglas, Bonnie Smith, Lois Dean Pemberton, and infant sister, Joyce Luttrell.

Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., with services immediately following at 1 p.m., on Friday, February 14, at Fancher-Rekus Funeral Home in Iberia with Mike Hill officiating. Interment will be held at a later date in Mt. Union Cemetery in Brumley.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions are suggested to Mt. Union Cemetery.
