Harrisonville Police Warn of Scam

During this difficult time, we all need to remember that scammers are still looking for victims. To get in front of the attempts by the bad guys to steal your money, we at HPD wanted to just give you some advice. The U.S. Government will soon be sending millions of Americans stimulus checks. If you qualify to receive one of these checks, you do not have to sign up or provide additional banking or personal information.

1. Be alert for phone scams, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), Treasury Department, or any other government agency will NOT contact you by phone to collect information for stimulus payment processing.
2. Be alert for phishing scams. Government agencies will NOT email or text you to collect information for stimulus payment processing. Watch for suspicious emails or texts messages with links or attachments requesting information for processing stimulus deposits or checks. This also applies to state agencies.

Remember if it seems to good to be true then it very well may be. The predators who work the scams are very creative and have nothing better to do but try and find new ways to steal your money. Remind your family members, friends and neighbors via phone, email or text about this and we can help each other not become victims.
