Obituary - Joseph William Gormly, Jr.

Joseph William Gormly, Jr., age 62, of Peculiar, Missouri, passed away at the Kansas City Hospice House surrounded by his loving family on Friday, February 28, 2020.

A visitation service will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 8, 2020 at St. Catherine of Siena Parish, 4101 E 105th Terrace, Kansas City, Missouri 64137. 

A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, March 9, 2020 at St. Catherine of Siena Parish.

Joe was born in Kansas City, Missouri on January 23, 1958 to Joseph W. Gormly Sr. and Janis (Leavell) Gormly. After high school Joe began to work. He created a life long successful career for himself as an insulator. Joe was a proud member of the Union Local #27. In the early summer of 1981, he was joined in marriage with his wife Dianne (Douglas) Gormly on May 6th. Together they were blessed with three children, Damon, Matt, and Katie. In life Joe enjoyed much of anything that included being outdoors such as boating and fishing. Joe was also a very proud grandfather, spending as much time with his grandchildren as possible. It was very important to Joe to reach out and support people struggling with addiction. Joe engaged in many speaking opportunities in the area sharing his experience in the hope of helping others.

Joe was preceded in death by his father, Joseph William Gormly Sr.

He is survived by his loving wife of over thirty-eight years, Dianne Gormly; two sons, Damon Gormly and Matt Gormly (Kylie); daughter, Katie Gormly; mother Janis Gormly; three sisters Tammy Lawson (Vernon), Terri Gormly, and Kelley Allen (Richard); two brothers, Ted Gormly and Dennis Gormly; eight grandchildren, Adrionna, Marley, Grace, Michael, Bryant “Bear”, Maddie, Daniel Jr., and Gavin; and one granddaughter on the way.

Joe’s family would like to thank all those who demonstrated support in so many caring ways through thoughts and prayers, visits, text messages, phone calls, cards, flowers, and meals. All efforts big and small will forever be in our hearts.
