Interment will follow the memorial service in Woodland Cemetery, Mound City, Kansas.
Pauline's wishes were that any memorial donations be made to Trinity United Methodist Church and may be left at/mailed to Hill & Son Funeral Home, P.O. Box 33, Appleton City, MO 64724.
Pauline Vivian (Caruthers) Cox, 101, was born in Walker, Missouri July 1, 1918, the daughter of Herman William and Frankie Hortense (Anderson) Caruthers. She departed this life April 3, 2020 at Appleton City Manor Nursing Home surrounded by those who loved and cared for her.
Pauline’s family moved to Appleton City when she was very young, and she attended Appleton City Schools. Following graduation, she moved to Kansas City, Missouri where she was employed by William Volker & Company until her marriage to Clayton L. Cox on July 29, 1939.
For a few years they lived in Kansas City, Kansas, then Washington, D.C. and later Kahului, Hawaii during WWII. Following the war, they established their home in Chicago, Illinois, where they became partners in the C & C Cartage Company. Pauline continued to operate their company even after Clayton’s death in 1974.
In 1986 she sold the trucking company and moved to Overland Park, Kansas. In 1992 she relocated for the last time back to Appleton City. While living in Appleton City Pauline was an active member of Trinity United Methodist Church, AC Community Club, and Ellett Memorial Hospital Auxiliary as long as her health permitted. She was also a member of the Mound City American Legion Auxiliary #248 for over 50.
Pauline was preceded in death by her husband Clayton, her parents, her sister Louise and an infant brother Glen. Survivors include many cousins; her Godchild Carol Henning of Idaho Falls, Idaho; her special namesake Paula Engle of Rancho Santa Fe, California; and Judy, Jodi, Melba and Brian who became her caring family in her later years.
