On May 4th, at approximately 10:30 am, the Bates County Sheriffs Office received a call in reference to the storm damaging a house. The storm had downed a tree into a home in rural Butler west of Passaic off of F Highway.
Deputies along with Butler Fire, Amsterdam Fire and the Bates County EMS responded to the scene.
Additional equipment was requested from chainsaws to a large excavator. Sutton Construction Company of Butler responded with an excavator to assist in the rescue efforts.
Unfortunately the incident resulted in one death. The deceased is identified as 71-year old Joan D. Powell of Adrian, Missouri.
