The deputy attempted to take the male subject into custody but the subject was non-compliant. The subject eventually exited the vehicle and charged at the deputy. The deputy deployed his taser to stop the attack. The subject fell to the ground where he continued to resist arrest. A good samaritan who was a witness to the accident, helped the Deputy take the subject into custody.
Witnesses told the Deputy that they observed the vehicle crash into a bridge and continue to drive in a careless manner. The vehicle reportedly drove off the road several times and speeds ranged from 5 mph to 50 mph. Witnesses stated that it appeared the subject was under the influence of something and they were concerned about the boy in the vehicle. The driver eventually drove the car off the road into a yard where bystanders were able to get the 9 year old boy from the vehicle.
Deputies searched the subject and the vehicle and found multiple illegal substances to include possible methamphetamine, PCP, and ecstasy.
The male subject was transported to the Bates County Memorial Hospital to be medically cleared by doctors for confinement. Why at the hospital the subject advised the deputy of a handgun located in the vehicle. Deputies have applied for a search warrant on the vehicle to recover the firearm.
The subject was identified as Anthony K Douglas, 11/03/1985 out of Kansas City, Missouri. Douglas was charged with possession of controlled substance, interfering with an arrest. Douglas is currently being held on a $25,000 cash or surety bond.
Additional charges could be filed once the case has been completely reviewed by the prosecutor's office.
