Edna fought heart disease for many years prior to her death. Many believe she refused to succumb all those years in order to care for her husband, a victim of Alzheimer’s disease. In the end, she was not strong enough to fight off the COVID-19 virus that has taken the lives of so many.
Edna and Charlie celebrated 50 years of marriage in December of 2019. They resided most recently at Independence Manor Care Center in Independence, Missouri. Though Coronavirus prevented us from enjoying face-to-face visits, we could see their happiness at being together during window visitation. Staff described them as a “cute couple” that would hold hands as they watched television together.
An avid reader, Edna always had a book on her coffee table or nightstand. Having worked as a legal professional, she was particularly fond of John Grisham and Scott Turow novels. Later in life, Edna’s love of reading led her to become a Bible scholar. She used this knowledge to the benefit of Butler Presbyterian Church in Butler, Missouri where she and Charlie were long-time members.
Always generous, Edna loved to help people.
She was an excellent cook, known particularly for her canning skills which delivered Edna’s Famous Pickles; a delightful condiment in high demand among her friends and family. She was also a dedicated animal lover. Edna’s many pets enjoyed her deep affection and they returned that love warmly and often.
Edna’s capacity for love was shared among many friends and family over her eighty-four years. We will all remember her fondly and miss her deeply.
Edna was preceded in death by her parents Bruce and Maureen Hollar, and her brother Donald Hollar, all of Weston, Missouri. She is survived by husband Charles (Charlie) Hardinger, stepson Charles Hardinger, Jr. and dear friends Andrea & Scott Sheridan who have supported and loved Edna as a mother.
