Fatality accident in St. Clair County

On 7/24/20 around 5:21pm the Missouri State Highway Patrol in St. Clair County along with St. Clair County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a one vehicle rollover accident on Route J around 2 miles southwest of Birdsong in rural St. Clair County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the 2001 Toyota Sequoia driven by 41 year old Rebecca L. Kleiss of Stockton,Missouri traveled off the roadway and overturned.

Rebecca L. Kleiss was pronounced dead and she was transported by St. Clair County Coroner Randy Sheldon.

A passenger in the vehicle 24 year old Leah C.Vandiver of Springfield, Missouri sustained serious injuries in this accident and she was transported by air ambulance to Cox South Hospital in Springfield, Missouri for treatment.

The vehicle was totaled and towed from the scene of the accident by C&H Towing of Collins, Missouri.

This is Troop D of the Missouri State Highway Patrol's 63rd fatality of 2020.
