The Junior/Senior Prom was finally held for the kids last Saturday evening. The kids were dressed up in their finest and you realize these are young men and woman getting ready to embrace the world as adults. Thank you all who helped make this event possible for the kids.

The community of Hume wishes to extend their sympathy to the family of Jim Rankin. Jim passed away on July 3 following health complications. Jim was an active member of the Hume United Methodist Church and was always involved in helping with the Methodist Men. He was a great friend to all and will be greatly missed.

This week should have been the 78th Annual Hume Fair and Rodeo. The Fair Board made the extremely tough decision to cancel this year due to COVID-19. We weighed in on many different factors before we finally came to that decision. We felt we needed to do what was best for our families, our community and surrounding area. This week will be tough, we enjoy bringing the fair to our town for all to enjoy.

When normally we would have been preparing for the week for all the festivities; I find myself sad, but also very thankful that for our team of members and fairs past. We are looking forward to next year when once again will be able to celebrate the Hume Fair and Rodeo. Being on a committee is not the easiest at times, you have to make decisions that aren’t very popular and then there are times you get to make the very best decisions that make people enjoy themselves.

Things are so different this year, much different than we ever imagined happening in our lifetime. Whether you make a decision to wear a mask or not, be kind to each other. Be kind to your school administrators and teachers they are and will be having an extremely tough time making decisions. We need to be a team supporting them in every way possible. In fact just be kind to one another no matter what the situation. We are all human with different opinions and ideas which at times we tend to think our way is the only right way. But it doesn’t take a lot of effort to be nice and kind to one another. After all with everything going on right now ~”This too shall pass”. Have a great week!
