We want to take a minute and congratulate Ryenne Gepford as this week's State Farm Student Athlete of the week. Ryenne is a senior at Butler High School. She is on the varsity Volleyball team, and she helped lead her team to the 1st place finish at the Lamar Invitational last weekend. She finished the weekend by being selected to the All-Tournament Team.
Ryenne was nominated by Butler's Athletic Director Jake Duvall. Ryenne and the Lady Bears also defeated Adrian this past week where Ryenne had seven kills, three aces, seven diggs and a block. She not only excels on the court, but also in the classroom.
She serves as student council president and maintains over a 4.0. When we asked Ryenne what it takes to become an elite athlete and leader on a team she stated "it takes gaining the respect of your teammates. You have to have that.
" She stated that "the enthusiasm one has on the court, the effort put forth and their attitude are those things that make a leader stand out on a team." Ryenne is looking at a few colleges still, but has hopes of continuing to play beach volleyball at the collegiate level. We wish Ryenne and the Lady Bears the best of luck next week and as they get closer to District Play.
