Obituary - Mary Jo Cable

Mary Jo Cable, 76, of Clinton, Missouri passed away Monday evening in a car accident, November 9, 2020. She was born April 16, 1944 in Versailles, Mo., the daughter of Roger Meyer and Viola (Jolley) Meyer. She married Kent Cable in Versailles, Mo., on September 6, 1964. He survives of the home.

Mary Jo was a 1962 graduate of Versailles High School, received her Bachelor's degree in 1965 from Central Missouri State University, now University of Central Missouri, and then in 1968 she received her Master's in Library Science from CMSU. She began her teaching in the Russellville, Mo., school district. She and Kent moved to Clinton, Mo., and she began teaching at the Sherwood School District. But, her main thrust was teaching others about God, Jesus, the Holy Spirit and the Bible. She had Bible studies in her home, in Urich, Mo., at the United Methodist Church and also taught the Seekers Sunday School class. She introduced a huge number of people to the Bible in an understandable way. If there was a question, she would say, "we'll have to ask when we see Jesus". Mary Jo was very knowledgeable about the Bible and different theologians and would bring in other interesting information. She wanted everyone to understand the Bible as she did so they could know God and what He offered. Mary Jo was a wonderful cook, a baker extraordinaire, a casserole queen. She cooked for groups like the Hawthorn Bank dinners, usually three in one day, and the Jamaica Mission Trip crews. She organized and got all the food together so there would be enough and then some. She headed the Sunday School crew that worked for the Samaritan Center food distribution one night a month but also worked afternoons organizing cans and boxes to be sure others distributing food during the week were prepared. She was called "the can Nazi" because she was so particular about the dates on the cans and their placement. Mary Jo was a lover of many things: chocolate, all things in nature like trees, flowers, (she was a renowned orchid grower), shrubs, sunrises and sunsets, birds, travel to different countries, architecture, laughing and spending time with friends, card games, jigsaw puzzles, computer puzzles, worship music, Bill and Gloria Gaither and all the Homecoming folks, being sure the Samaritan Center had food to deliver for Christmas Cheer, including her Neiman Marcus brownies, and new recipes. But, her greatest loves were Kent, teaching others about Jesus and His love for us, praying for others, the Bible and God. She had a fierce desire for others to know who God and Jesus are and where the Holy Spirit lives and what they have done for us and are continuing to do for those who believe and put their trust in Him. She was not a lover of gossip or animals, namely dogs and cats. She was loved by all who studied with her or spent time with her. Surviving are her husband Kent Cable, of the home; nieces and nephews; and a host of friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Roger and Viola Meyer; and one brother, William "Bill" Meyer. Memorial services will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, November 13, 2020 at the Clinton United Methodist Church. Services will be streamed live from Mary Jo's Tribute page and will remain there for a period of time to be viewed at one's convenience. The register book will be available for signing Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Bradley & Hadley Funeral Home.
