A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 21, 2021 at Cullen Funeral Home, 612 W. Foxwood Dr. Raymore, Missouri 64083. A funeral will be held immediately after at 11:00 a.m. followed by a 2:00 p.m. graveside service at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery, 20109 Bus, MO-13, Higginsville, Missouri 64037.
Kenneth was born in Kansas City, Missouri to Walter and Blanche Schoonover on July 22, 1923. Growing up Kenneth was an only child. He graduated from Pershing Grade School in 1936 and from high school in 1941. Kenneth joined the Navy on December 19, 1942 and spent thirty-eight months there. While working in Florida on T.B.F. Airplanes he helped redesign the Air Scoop on the planes. Groman Factor was building the T.B.F. and heard about the design, patted him on the back and said, son, you are going places. The following week he headed for Iwo Jima. He was honorably discharged from the Navy on February 26, 1946.
Kenneth then started working for S.W. Bell Tel. Co. on January 6, 1947 until December 31, 1983. Kenneth met his wife Ruby at Swope Park Baptist Church in 1947 and was married on December 31, 1947. Together they were blessed with three children, Douglas, Terri, and Scott. Kenneth held several jobs in church as a teacher, treasurer, deacon, and usher. In 1985 Kenneth worked in Germany for the Tel. Co. on a military base for fourteen months and had a great time. The family then moved south close to Warsaw Missouri in 1992 on twenty acers. They joined First Baptist Church at Warsaw and did lots of maintenance work there, building classrooms, keeping very busy. Kenneth and Ruby then moved to Raymore, Missouri in January of 2006. Sadly, Kenneth lost his wife Ruby on June 9, 2011. They were married over sixty three years.
Kenneth is survived by his three children, Douglas Schoonover, Terri Mathews, and Scott Schoonover; three granddaughters, Michelle Solis (Chris Schons), Manon Mathews, and Jessica Nichols (Chris); and four great grandchildren, Berik Solis, Brandon Solis, Bayne Solis, and Tammy Nichols.
