On 3/8/21 around 1:15pm the Miami County Kansas Sheriff's Office Detectives and Louisburg Police Department were checking a residence at the request of a domestic violence victim.
The victim had previously reported how the suspect had been coming to the home in violation of a court protection order and they were concerned the person might have returned while they had been away.
While checking the residence the officers encountered the suspect in the residence with a firearm. The suspect refused to put down the fire arm and threatened to harm officers or himself.
Officers backed off and contained to situation and requested additional help. Due to the nature of some of the threats made by the suspect, several businesses and residence were evacuated in the area for public safety.
Louisburg Police Officers along with Miami County Kansas Sheriffs Office Tactical Team quickly secured the area, and they were later joined Johnson County Kansas Sheriffs Office Tactical Unit who had been contacted and were requested to the situation which included crisis negotiators who were able to contact and talk the subject still inside the residence.
Due to the length of the operation the Overland Park Kansas Tactical Unit also responded to assist with the process and relieve officers who had been on scene for several hours.
On 3/9/21 around 2:45am the Crisis Negotiator was successful in getting the suspect to leave the residence and surrender himself to the police.
No one was injured and the suspect was taken into custody without incident and transported to a local medical facility for evacuation and treatment.
