Contractor crews will remove the bridge decks/driving surfaces and replace them with a new surface and install new guardrail.
These bridges were built in 1976 and are experiencing increasing deterioration. Approximately 270 vehicles cross the bridges daily.
Both bridges are included in Gov. Mike Parson’s $351 million Focus on Bridges program, which will repair or replace 250 bridges across the state.
Traffic impacts:
- All lanes of Route B will be CLOSED beginning Thursday, August 19 for the duration of the project
- Drivers will have access to entrances on either end of the work zone, but will not be able to drive through the work zone
- No detour will be signed, drivers are urged to find alternate routes around the project
- Signs and message boards will alert drivers to the bridge closing
Weather and/or scheduling conflicts could alter the work schedule.
This contract also included replacing the bridge deck/driving surface on the Bates County Route M bridge over the Osage River along with a culvert approximately one half mile to the north. That bridge was opened to traffic Wednesday, August 18.
