Poplar Heights Farm invites the public to join them at Battle of Island Mound site on Saturday, September 18 to commemorate the Battle of Island Mound, the first Civil War battle where Black soldiers engaged in combat.
The Poplar Heights Farm's booth will have jams and jellies for sale and antique items on display that you can guess what they were used for.
Other planned activities at Battle of Island Mound include live stage performances, a living history walking loop and other Civil War-themed events.
Attendees will see a presentation of the Buffalo soldiers and a first-person portrayal of Lt. Patrick Minor, an officer who successfully led a Union artillery unit during the Battle of Westport.
The living history walking loop will feature a rope-making demonstration, a bison program, a Missouri German carpenter's display, and an opportunity to meet the Buffalo Soldiers and Lt. Patrick Minor.
