Phyllis began her employment with BCMH in August of 1975 working as a CNA on the inpatient floor. During that time, she took classes and obtained her EMT license, often filling in shifts on the ambulance, and in 1980 earned her LPN from the Nevada Vo-Tech Center.
She worked the floor until 1993, when she transferred to the Home Health and Hospice department, serving as Supervisor for the In-Home Services Program. In 2012, home health services were discontinued at BCMH, and Dr. James Miller asked Phyllis to consider working for BCMH at the Family Care Clinics. She has worked in her current role as a triage nurse for the High Street Family Care Clinic since 2014.
Phyllis and her husband Everett live in Butler. They have six children, nine grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. In retirement, Phyllis wants to stay busy. She plans to work as a volunteer in the hospital’s gift shop, but in her spare time she wants to do some travelling, fishing, and spend more time with her grandchildren.
Phyllis said, “BCMH is the best place to work in Bates County. I have worked with compassionate, caring people, and feel like we are one big family. I think that’s what makes the difference, coworkers caring for coworkers.”
