Missouri State Highway Patrol Troop A Announces Promotions

Captain Steven V. Wilhoit, commanding officer of Troop A, Lee’s Summit, announces the following promotions effective March 1, 2022.

Trooper Brian R. Peters is being promoted to the rank of corporal and will remain in his current assignment as a motorcycle officer assigned to Zone 17, Troop A’s Special Enforcement Zone. Peters was appointed to the Missouri State Highway Patrol on July 1, 2010, as a member of the 92nd Recruit Class. After graduating from the Patrol’s Law Enforcement Academy, he was assigned to Troop A, Zone 12, Johnson County. On November 1, 2015, Peters transferred to Zone 11, serving Cass County. On August 1, 2019, he transferred to Zone 17, as a motorcycle officer within Troop A’s Special Enforcement Zone.

Corporal Peters was born in Kansas City, Missouri. He graduated from Belton High School, in Belton, Missouri, in 2006. Before joining the Patrol, he earned a Bachelor of Science in criminal justice from the University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg, Missouri. Corporal Peters is married and has two children.

Trooper Weston T. Smith is being promoted to the rank of corporal and will be designated as the assistant zone commander in Zone 12, serving Johnson County. Smith was appointed to the Missouri State Highway Patrol on January 1, 2017, as a member of the 104th Recruit Class. After graduating from the Patrol’s Law Enforcement Academy, he was assigned to Troop A, Zone 12, Johnson County.

Corporal Smith was born in Springfield, Missouri. He graduated from Nixa High School, in Nixa, Missouri, in 2012. Before joining the Patrol, he earned a Bachelor of Science in criminal justice from the Missouri Southern State University in Joplin, Missouri. Corporal Smith is married to Kaylene (Jones) Smith.
