Carolyn Lea Goddard, age 80 of Independence, Missouri died Wednesday, May 4, 2022 at her home. She was born December 25, 1941 to Roy Edward “Buster” and Jewell Laura Duff Spears in Butler, Missouri.
Carolyn, one of three children lived in Bates County, Missouri where she attended school at Ballard. Her family moved to Nevada, Missouri and she graduated from Nevada High School in 1959. On December 11, 1960 she was united in marriage to Barney Lee Goddard and to this union, four children were born–two of which were twins. For most of her professional career, Carolyn worked as an accountant for the Independence Housing Authority.
Carolyn is described as being loving, caring, funny, witty and ornery as well as selfless and very intelligent. She liked to read, play slot machines, watch game shows and get her hair and nails done. Above all, she enjoyed spending time with her family.
Carolyn is survived by two daughters, Robin Burke of Kansas City, Missouri and Tracy Goddard of Marble Hill, Missouri; a son, Joe Goddard of Independence, Missouri; a brother, Gary Spears and wife Sue of Lawrence, Kansas; a sister-in-law, Neta Browning of Butler, Missouri; nine grandchildren, Morgan Burke, Matthew Burke and wife Shannon, Patrick Burke and wife Cassie, Toni Burke, Sarah Birch and husband Bradley, Chelsea Spencer and fiancé Mathew Wells, Brandon Harris, Tiffany Harris and Rachael Harris; and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Barney Goddard; sister, Lois June Davidson; and daughter, Laura McKinney.
