Obituary - Darrell Gene Sterns

Darrell “Gene” Sterns of Hutchinson, Kansas, age 80, passed away on Saturday, May 14th, 2022 surrounded by family.

Gene was born in Altona, Missouri to his parents Snow and Alyce Sterns. He graduated from Adrian High School in 1960 located in Adrian, Missouri.

Gene drove an 18-wheeler for many years with the Buerge Elevator in Archie, MO, Passaic Grain in Passaic, MO, Tiona Truck Line in Butler, MO and Winters Trucking. He started as a Corrections Officer at the Hutchinson Correctional Facility in June of 1976. He retired from corrections as a Lieutenant in June of 1999, completing 23 years of service with the Hutchinson Correctional Facility. He was also a member of the Blue Knights Motorcycle Club for many years and he also worked at Lake City Ammunition Plant.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Snow Eddie Sterns and Alyce Maxine Sterns, along with an older brother, Jonny.

He is survived by his son, Eddie Sterns (Tina) of Adrian, MO; his brother, Jim Sterns (Kathy) of Bolivar, MO, and his sister Judith Sterns of Lee’s Summit, MO; four granddaughters, Ashley Sterns of Salina, KS, Jordan Sterns (Mandy) of Topeka, KS, Morgan Cramer (Travis) of Independence, MO and Sydney Sterns of Lee’s Summit, MO; three nieces, Kari Keating (Phil) of Adrian, MO, Jamie Nunez of Bolivar, MO and Ashley Sterns of Shawnee, OK; a nephew, Joshua Brack (Sharon) of Ozark, MO; and an abundance of great-grandchildren, great-nieces and great-nephews.

A memorial service will take place at the Salt City Cowboy Church, 810 N Main St, South Hutchinson, Kansas 67505, on Saturday, May 28th, 2022 at 1:00 P.M. with Pastor Montie McFerrin officiating.

Memorial Contributions can be made out to Salt City Cowboy Church and sent in care of Hutchinson Funeral Chapel, 300 E. 30th Ave, Hutchinson.
