John Dean Rice, age 62 of Girard, Kansas died Friday, April 29, 2022 at Via Christi Hospital in Pittsburg, Kansas. He was born December 23, 1959 to Herbert W. and Helen E. Ebbs Rice in Augusta, Kansas.
John grew up in Girard, Kansas where he graduated from Girard High School in 1978. After high school he worked in mission work in Vermont. John worked at FMI in Girard, Kansas, Tri State Trucking in Joplin, Missouri and later Superior Manufacturing in Pittsburg, Kansas until he became disabled. He was a member of the United Chapel Church in McCune, Kansas. On October 26, 1996 he married Lora Baird and they lived in Archie and Carthage, Missouri, later moving to Girard Kansas. They enjoyed 25 years together.
John is described as being happy, caring and talkative. He never met a stranger. He enjoyed watching sports such as the Royals and Chiefs. John would go to the local high school in Girard, Kansas and watch the teams play basketball and football. He would even attend some college games at Pitt State University. Some of John’s favorite hobbies were fishing and golfing.
John is survived by his wife, Lora (Baird) Rice of Girard, Kansas; one brother, Charles Rice of Fort Scott, Kansas; one sister-in-law, Ruth Austin and husband Mark of Butler, Missouri; and nephews and nieces. John was preceded in death by his parents; and twin brothers, Daniel Rice and Dale Rice.
