Subject arrested after fleeing police in Lamar

Yesterday, 07/14/22, Lamar Police Sgt. Cornell observed a motorcycle near 12th and Hagny driving carelessly. When Sgt. Cornell caught up to the bike, the driver parked in a yard and attempted to walk away. Sgt. Cornell briefly made contact with the driver before he fled by running on foot. 

Officers from the Lamar Police Department and deputies from the Barton County Sheriff’s Office responded to the area to locate the suspect. Lt. 

Shaw did locate the suspect and took him into custody a few blocks away. Through further investigation, officers found the motorcycle had been stolen in Wright County, Missouri on Friday July 8th.

Jason R Smith, 47, of Golden City Missouri was arrested and probable cause affidavits were submitted to the Barton County Prosecutor’s Office for Receiving Stolen Property and Resisting Arrest. Smith was formally charged and is currently being held in the Barton County Jail in lieu of $2,500 bond.

In all cases of arrest, the charge is based on probable cause and all defendants are presumed innocent unless or until proven guilty in court.
