Dixie Dell Huffman, 92, departed this life September 28, 2022 at Appleton City Manor Nursing Home in Appleton City, Missouri. Dixie was born September 1, 1930 in Schell City, Missouri, the daughter of Roy Leo and Daisey Emmaline (Robinson) Davis. Dixie grew up in Schell City graduating from Schell City High School. She was proud to be the captain of basketball team during those years. She was a member of the Christian Church.

On January 21, 1961 Dixie was married to William Jacob “Jay” Huffman. They moved to Independence, Missouri until Jay’s retirement in 1990 when they moved to a farm near Rockville, Missouri. Dixie had a job outside the home briefly but chose to focus on raising and caring for her family.

Cooking and baking were two things she enjoyed doing for her family. They all agreed that her cinnamon rolls were the absolute best. Throughout her life she owned many varieties of dogs, but her favorite furry friend was Tiny, a peek-a-poo, who was her companion for 16 years. Dixie also enjoyed watching the hummingbirds at her feeders. Her hobbies were putting together jig saw puzzles and doing crossword puzzles. She also enjoyed watching “judge” shows, bull riding, boxing and cage fighting on TV.

Dixie was preceded in death by her son Michael Davis who was killed in Vietnam in March 16, 1970, two great-grandsons and nine siblings. Survivors include her husband Jay; her two daughters, Carolyn Dye and husband Paul, and Debbie Nelson; her grandchildren, Michelle Wilhite, Wendy Shelton, Rodney Dye, and Amy Rowe; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; two siblings, Larry Davis and Betty Souza.

A special thanks to Heartland Hospice members for their compassion and the special care extended to Dixie and her family.
