Obituary - Steve Milton Hertzberg

Steven Milton Hertzberg, beloved son, husband, dad, and Pops, passed away on Sunday, February 12, 2023, after a hard-fought battle with Multiple Sclerosis. He was born on April 28, 1953 to Milton and Zenial Hertzberg in Nevada, Missouri. He married Karen Guerrant on August 10, 1975and she survives of the home.

Steve started working in the family business, Hertzberg Furniture in the 7th grade and returned after graduating from Drury University in 1975. He worked at Hertzberg Furniture until his health caused him to have to retire in 2007. Steve was a hard worker who was always willing to go the extra mile for his customers.

Steve was a community leader. At Drury University, he was an active member of the Phi Kappa Sigma Fraternity. He was president of the Nevada County Club, a member of Rotary, the United Methodist Church of Nevada, men’s bridge group, an original member of the 9:00 a.m. coffee club, and Thursday golf buddies.

Steve loved to laugh and to spend time with family and friends. He told the best dad jokes and had an infectious laugh. He was an avid golfer and never missed a Chiefs football game. During his many years in the nursing home, you would often find Steve at the front door as the unofficial Moore-Few greeter. He loved to visit with people. Steve led a life full of music and was an accomplished trombone player.

Left to cherish his memories are wife, Karen Hertzberg of the home, son, Blake (Amy) Hertzberg of Nevada, Missouri, daughter, Darcy (Jason) Herold of Lee’s Summit, MO, grandchildren, Paige Hertzberg, Parker Hertzberg, Bennett Herold and Alex Herold, father, Milton Hertzberg of Nevada, Missouri, sister, Connie (Phil) Mangiaracina of Kansas City, Missouri, and many extended family members, and dear friends. Steve was preceded in death by his mother, Zenial Hertzberg and grandson, Harrison Herold.

The family will receive friends on Friday, March 3rd from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at United Methodist Church of Nevada and have a celebration of life on Saturday, March 4th at 10:00 a.m. at the United Methodist Church of Nevada.
