Update: Suicidal subject locks down school and daycare this afternoon in Butler

On 4/11/23 at approximately 130pm Bates County Sheriff's Office was requested to assist the Butler Police Department in reference to a reportedly armed and a suicidal subject.

The subject was reportedly in the area on the train tracks south of Mill Street. The Subject had made prior threats to commit "suicide by cop" in the past.

The officers on scene had lost the subject in the area behind the porta-pot storage and the railroad tracks. Deputies, Detectives and Command Staff responded to assist Butler Police Department.

The Butler Elementary School and a Daycare were placed on lockdown out of an abundance of caution.

At approximately 1:55 pm law enforcement on scene found the subject hiding in the heavy brush in a creek behind a small outbuilding. The subject was taken into custody without incident.

Shortly after, both daycare and elementary schools were released from their lockdown.
