Orville Ray Wells, Jr. “Red” was born December 12, 1933 in Kansas City, Kansas to Orville R. Wells, Sr. and Oma Jundy Wells. He grew up in the Butler, Missouri area and graduated from Butler High School in 1951. While in School he often worked for Johnny Underwood at the Underwood Funeral Home. Following high school, he served in the US Army from 1954 to 1956 in Germany with the 1st Division 26th Infantry.
Red, also known as Junior or Pinkie to some, worked for many years as a Tool Setter at the Lake City Ammunition plant and for Midwest Lumber before retirement. He loved to travel and see the world, enjoying the architecture and fine arts wherever he went. He had a love of music and was known to be a pretty good dancer as well. Above all else, he enjoyed spending time with his friends, often times at the local restaurant. He was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Butler.
Red was a kind soul, a story teller, and a good friend to many. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, Harley and Grace Briggs Wells, and Clade and Eva May Darr Jundy, brother Carl McCaughey, and sister Shirley Russell.
Red is survived by his sister Patricia Staub and friend and caretaker, Marlene Wainscott, along with nieces, nephews, cousins, and many dear friends.
