Obituary - Patrick Steven Grant, Sr.

Patrick Steven Grant, Sr., 66, Nevada, MO passed away on Monday, May 1, 2023 at Nevada Regional Medical Center in Nevada. Patrick was born July 3, 1956 in Seneca, MO.

Pat left school early to join the Army where he proudly served for 2 years. Afterwards, he married his first wife Robin, and had 2 children, Patrick and Kimberly whom he loved dearly. That marriage didn’t last long though, and he soon became a single parent to both kids.

Pat didn’t have much but what he did have was love. He raised his kids to have Christian values and prayed with them every night.

He taught them the importance of being kind, honest, and respecting others while always supporting them in school and with extra-curricular activities.

He never missed a school play or sports game and was their biggest cheerleader. Some of their favorite memories of him are calling him after work just to say hi, Kim trying to convince him that her birthday was a day later and after 3 days seeing his face when telling him the truth (priceless). He also loved to joke with his daughter-in-law about how he had more hair than Pat Jr. and would then run his hands though his hair.

As kids, going to family reunions in the summer, taking long drives to nowhere in his yellow station wagon, and watching him try to embarrass them in front of their friends by doing his “belly dance” but it backfired on him and anytime friends would come over they’d ask him to do it again just to get a good laugh. Oh, and they’ll never forget about his ponytail that he proudly hung on the wall for all to see.

As the kids grew up and moved out, his mental health declined. He would go on to live the next 14 years with his daughter off and on and in and out of hospital stays at the VA. It was during one of those stays that he met the love of his life, Melinda. The two were soon married and remained best friends until his passing.

Pat’s 5 grandkids were the sparkle in his eye. Being a Papa gave him great joy and he enjoyed spending time with each of them. He was so proud of all their accomplishes and spoke of them often. Some of their favorite memories are how he’d chew his food like Popeye, the time he accidentally put his underwear on over his pants, and how he would say “ohhhhhh Kim” when his daughter would joke with him.

Pat was such a jokester. He would tell “dad jokes” to anyone he spoke with just to try to make them smile. You wouldn’t get too far from him without him giving you a “pat” on your shoulder or say “goodbye I love you” at least a dozen times. He loved to watch old western movies, but his favorite movie was Forrest Gump. He drank Pepsi as if it was water and loved his sweets. He was full of kindness and even though he had little, he would still give whatever he had if you needed it.

Pat will be missed dearly by his family and friends, but they have assurance that they will see him again in Heaven.

Graveside Committal services with Military Funeral Honors will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, May 8, 2023 at the National Cemetery in Fort Scott, KS with Pastor Chad Daniel officiating.
