He enlisted in the Army right out of High School and served as a Staff Sergeant in Viet Nam in Long Range Reconnaissance for an extended time.
Patriotism remained high on his list of priorities. He served as Commander of VFW Post 1894 and was part of the Honor Guard. He also was Commander of American Legion Post 14.
Roy worked in electrical construction and was a lineman. He also enjoyed raising cattle on his farm, formerly his dad’s farm.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Mary Fern Mansfield and a brother Kenneth Richard Smith.
Roy and his wife, Sharon Ballard Smith, had two daughters, Kimberly Koch (Chuck) and Joey Wilson (Rob), all of Clinton. Grandchildren are Cody Knight, Clayton Knight, Jenna Bradshaw, Olivia Bradshaw, Lauren Crawford Widdison (Kyle), Hannah Crawford Tomczyk, Cadyn Phillips and Noah Koch, along with 3 great grandchildren, Matthew, McKenzie and Micah Tomczyk, also survived by a sister Martha Smith Lowe (G.R.) and many nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
Roy was known to be a kind, hard -working and good-humored individual. There was just one Roy, and he is greatly missed!
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 PM on Saturday, May 27, 2023 at the Vansant-Mills Chapel in Clinton, Missouri with visitation from 1:30-2:30 PM prior to the service.

Burial with military honors to follow in Englewood Cemetery in Clinton. Memorial contributions can be made to the Wounded Warrior Project and may be left in care of the funeral home.
