Fatality motorcycle accident in Bourbon County claims the life of Kansas man

On Saturday June 10th around 3:46 p.m. the Kansas State Highway Patrol responded to a two vehicle accident on US. 54 Highway at South 100 Road.

The Kansas State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the 1998 Mercury Grand Marquis driven by 60 year old Daniel E. Blake of Fort Scott, Kansas was eastbound and failed to yield to, and turned in front of, a westbound 2015 Harley Davidson Road Glide driven by 58 year old Ryan G. Simpson of Hutchinson, Kansas. The motorcycle then overturned and struck the Mercury.

Mr. Simpson was later pronounced dead at the hospital. His passenger, 58 year old Cynthia A. Simpson of Hutchinson, Kansas, was flown to Freeman Hospital for treatment of serious injuries. Blake wasn't injured in this crash.

The Kansas Highway Patrol later arrested Blake for charges including driving under the influence, driving while unauthorized, aggravated battery, interference with law enforcement officer/obstruction, and involuntary manslaughter.

His passenger, 75 year old Marth Knackstedt of Fort Scott, Kansas, was arrested for interference with law enforcement officers; use or possession of opiates or narcotic drugs or certain stimulants, possession of drug paraphernalia, and permitting an unauthorized driver.

Both were taken to the Bourbon County Jail and are being held without bond.
