Clyde Eugene Kisner “Doc” was born October 20, 1926 in Butler, Missouri to Benonie and Violet Eddy Kisner. On September 18, 1947 he was united in marriage to Arlene Kauffman.

Clyde’s life began on the farm, and that’s where his true passion was. He took pride in raising pigs, cattle, chickens, and registered quarter horses. In the 1960’s Clyde and Arlene owned and operated the Rockville Grocery Store. Then in 1987 they opened D&D Tire. Clyde faithfully opened the doors to his business every day, until 2020. His son Doug worked by his side for nearly all of those years, along with Cliff Huge, who quickly became a trusted friend and employee to Clyde. He was instrumental in the operations of the shop.

For many years the residents of Bates County and beyond knew that if you had a flat tire, you go see Clyde. The shop was always a welcome place for conversation for regular customers and new alike. You were sure to be greeted by Clyde and his faithful companion Ripper, and a western movie on the TV. Clyde enjoyed all his customers and made sure they got back to the field or on the road safely.

When Clyde wasn’t running the business, you would often times find him fishing. In the early years it would be in the back waters of Rockville and Schell City. Later in life he would be on the banks of his pond on the farm. He was also an avid hunter and gardener for his entire life, even well into his 80’s. At the end of the day, Clyde enjoyed his time on the back porch with a drink in hand.

Clyde loved his pets, all pets really. Rarely did you see him without his faithful companion Ripper. They have been inseparable for nearly 18 years.

Clyde, for many years, was fondly known as “Doc” to his friends. He loved chocolate cake and anything lemon. He was proud to have a current and valid driver’s license, after forgetting to renew it in 2010 and having to retake the test. With the help of Cliff, Clyde studied and practiced hard for several weeks and he was once again able to pass the driving test.

As Clyde grew older, he was able to stay home his last few years even though his health declined. His devoted great-grandson Raeth Kisner lived with him and cared for him. Clyde was able to pass along his knowledge of gardening, frying chicken, frying hamburgers, and fishing to Raeth. Together they watched a lot of the Price is Right, Wheel of Fortune, and RFD TV.

Clyde will always be remembered for his welcoming conversation, his appreciation for the simple things in life, and for his laid-back spirit. As Clyde would say, “There ain’t no reason to get too excited”

Clyde was preceded in death by his parents, wife Arlene, his son David, brother Ben Kisner, sister Wilma Lewis, and sister Juanita Thomas. He is survived by his son Danny and wife Debbie of Butler, son Doug and wife Judy of Butler, grandchildren Daniel Kisner and wife Liz, Dannette Underwood and husband Eric, Dalena Kisner, and Dusty Kisner. He is also survived by great-grandchildren, Riggen, Raeth, Robey, Lena, and Orrin Kisner, and Ty Underwood and Dayten Kisner, Alexis, Levi, Dalila Dotson and Karter Skai Kisner. Along with great-great-grandchildren Adaline and Everly Underwood and his sister-in-law Mary Kisner.
