Obituary - Nelson Ruff, Jr.

Nelson Ruff, Jr. 80 of Harrisonville, Missouri passed away Thursday, June 15, 2023 at Belton Regional Hospital in Belton, Missouri. Cremation, with Celebration of Life Services pending at this time. Nelson Raymond Ruff, Jr. was born on September 4th, 1942 born to Rachael M. And Nelson R. Ruff Sr. In Nebraska City, Nebraska. Nelson graduated from Drexel High School in 1961. He furthered his education at DeVry University and graduated in 1991.

On February 22nd, 1963 Nelson joined in marriage with Judy M. (Pruett) Ruff and were married for 53 years before Judy’s passing in October 2017.

Nelson was a kind, loving and generous man who served the City of Harrisonville in Harrisonville, Missouri as a Police officer from 1974 as a reserve officer before becoming a full-time Patrolman in 1994. He retired from the Harrisonville Police Department in 2008. He is well recognized and loved by his former officers and community. Nelson also worked at General Motors and retired from in 1988.

Nelson was preceded in death by his beautiful wife Judy Ruff. Parents Nelson and Rachel Ruff. Two sisters; Rita Rinehart and Carolyn Cumpton, brother; Robert Ruff and sister-in-law Patricia Ruff; son Kevin Ray Ruff, son-in-Law James Hayes and one grandson-in-law Brandon Michael Boyd.

Nelson is survived by daughters Janine Hayes and Michelle Ruff. Six grand-children; William Barnet IV, Angelina Swofford, Allen Swofford, Amanda Boyd, Jacob Ruff and Jeremy Ruff, and 11 great-grandchildren plus many nieces and nephews.
