Virgil was born to Don Poisal and Doris (Hampton) Weide in Garden City, MO, on May 19, 1949. He graduated from Sherwood High School in 1967. He married Sharon Sue Arnold on June 29, 1969 at the Daugherty United Methodist Church in Daugherty, MO. Virgil spent the majority of his formative years in rural Garden City. He worked many jobs as a child to help support the family and had several teachers and coaches take an interest in his well-being. It was during this time that he developed a passion for learning and saw public education as a way to not only better himself, but to help others. Even though he spent the majority of his career as an administrator, he was always a teacher at heart. He truly loved his students and had a passion for helping them find their way.
Virgil developed his love of farming during his high school years when he lived and worked with his future in-laws, Bob & Claudine Arnold. When Bob was ready to retire, Virgil and Sharon made the decision to take over the family farm rather than see the land sold, and they additionally purchased a farm adjacent to the family land. This was during the farm crisis of the early 1980's. They were able to make a go of it on the farm for a couple of years until they both decided to return to their careers as educators. For the next 30 years, he worked two jobs -teaching school during the day and farming in the evenings and on weekends. Sadly, he was only able to enjoy six months of retirement when his health began to fail him. Over the next several years, though limited physically, he was able to slow down and enjoy each day that was given to him. He was able to see every sporting event and activity of his grandchildren that he possibly could and was always happy to see his kids, friends, and any visitors that might come by.
During his career as an educator, Virgil worked in the Holden, Grandview, and Northwestern school districts before spending 30 years as a teacher and administrator in the Belton School District #124. The last fourteen years of his career, he served as Principal of Belton High School. He loved the students and families he worked with in Belton. In 2011, he achieved his lifelong dream of becoming "Dr. Poisal" as he earned his Educational Doctorate from Saint Louis University.
Virgil was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church. He taught the "Nomads" Sunday School class at Harrisonville United Methodist Church for over forty years. He enjoyed studying the Bible and preparing weekly lessons. He believed teaching the class was carrying on a legacy handed down to him from his father.
