Dade County, MO – The Western Missouri Sheriff’s Critical Incident Investigation Team has identified the suspect as Wayne Edwin Simmons, 54, El Dorado Springs, MO.
Simmons was shot and killed Wednesday morning, June 14, after shooting at members of the Barton and Cedar County Sheriff’s Office.
Simmons was the suspect in an armed carjacking that occurred in rural Barton County earlier that same day.
The investigation is ongoing and information will be released when available.

Dade County, MO - On Wednesday June 14th the Western Missouri Sheriff's Critical Incident Investigation Team was contacted by Dade County Sheriff Max Huffman to assist with the investigation of an officer involved shooting near Lockwood Missouri.
Around 10:30 Wednesday morning members of the Barton and Cedar County Sheriff’s Office responded to a residence in the 1000 block of W Dade 72 Road reference an investigation related to a stolen vehicle. The vehicle was located in a barn on the property by a homeowner. Deputies identified the vehicle as the same truck stolen earlier that morning in Barton County.
Members of both Sheriff’s Offices conducted a search of the barn where they located an armed subject and gunfire was exchanged and the subject was shot. Members immediately began rendering lifesaving aid, however the subject was pronounced deceased at the scene. No law enforcement members were injured.
The WMSCIIT responded with investigators from the Bates, Cass, and Henry County Sheriff's Office and are working to determine the series of events that led up to the shooting.
