The business and the Lamar Police Department worked together to develop a plan for surveillance and a response for if the suspects returned.
On 06/29/23 at 03:00am the business observed suspects attempting to break in again. Lamar Police Officers responded, some responding from home, and set up a perimeter.
Two persons, Derrick Caton, 44 of Columbus Ks and Frank Chaney, 40 of Pittsburg KS were apprehended as they were exiting the building with stolen property. As the investigation continued probable cause was developed for others who participated in the previous burglaries. A warrant was issued for Jaymes Brazda, 46 of Cherokee Ks. Brazda has been arrested as well.
Charges were forwarded to The Barton County Prosecutor’s office. Derrick Caton was formally charged with three counts of burglary and bond was set at $20,000.
As is the case in all arrest, charges are based on probable cause and all persons are considered innocent until or unless found guilty in court.
