The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the southbound 2016 Peterbilt Driven by 34 year old Derek A. Shawgo of Hannibal Missouri attempted to make a U-turn failing to yield to a 2003 Yamaha Road Star motorcycle ridden by 44 year old Eric L. Thomas of Harrisonville Missouri. This caused the front right side of the Peterbilt to strike the left side of the Yamaha.
The Yamaha then struck a 2003 International Harvester driven by 57 year old Shawn L. Ripley of Eldridge Missouri as it was parked off the side of the road. This caused Mr. Thomas to be ejected from the Yamaha. As a result Mr. Thomas was pronounced deceased at 12:26 hours at Cass Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Shawgo and Mr. Ripley both received minor injuries as a result of this accident.
The Peterbilt and the Yamaha were both towed from the scene by J's Southland Tow, and the International was able to be driven from the scene.
