Clifton actively served in the United States Coast Guard for four years, then continued an additional 20 years in the reserves. His career was with the Kansas City, Missouri Fire Department for 31 years, retiring as Battalion Chief.
He was preceded in death by his mother Eileen Smith, father Forrest Clifton Sandusky, two brothers Dan and Steve Smith, and first grandchild Michael Anthony Doyle.
He is survived by his wife Bonnie, children Terri Doyle (Jim), Dawn Grieb (Carey), Eileen Arnold, Cindy Hewlett (Jim), and James Sandusky. His step children include Louie Romi III “Bobby”, Steven Fine, and Stacy Fine. He had 17 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, 4 great- great grandchildren, and 6 sisters.
Services will be held at Dickey Funeral Home, 2401 E. Mechanic Street, Harrisonville, MO 64701 on Tuesday, July 18, 2023. Visitation is 1:00pm-2:00pm with services immediately following. Flowers may be sent to the funeral home or donations sent to Great Plains SPCA https://greatplainsspca.salsalabs.org/memorials/index.html in Clifton’s name.
