Obituary - William Keith Woodfin

In the early afternoon of July 22, 2023, William Keith Woodfin passed away at the age of 88. Bill was born at home to Vernon and Gertrude Woodfin in Bates County, Missouri, and was one of five siblings, who have all preceded him in death.

Bill is also preceded in death by his wife, Madeline Woodfin of 57 years. Together they raised four children, Thomas Hood, (spouse Karen), Dean Hood, Mary(Hood)Weaver (spouse Douglas), and Melissa (Woodfin) Massey (spouse Mike). They left a legacy of grandchildren, Dustin Weaver (spouse Alejandra), Monica (Massey) Curtis, (spouse Jonathan), Adrienne (Weaver) Hunter, (spouse Logan), Brandon Hood (spouse Chelsey), Katie Hood, and Maddie Hood, and great grandchildren, Easton and Owen Curtis, and Emersyn Hood.

Bill graduated from Rich Hill high school and began his career as a truck driver for the local coal mines in and around Rich Hill. He retired as a Teamster’s union member, working at Ideal truck lines in Kansas City. Bill worked alongside his son-in-law, Mike, for Massey cleaning over 20 years. He also served in the US Navy for six years as an aviation, machinist mate on the USS Intrepid.

As a family man, Bill loved woodworking and anything mechanical. In his younger years, he taught his children to love the outdoors through hunting, fishing, and rodeos. Bill was an amateur bull rider who won a few and lost a few.

Bill was a man who faced life challenges head on and never backed down or complained. He married a woman with three babies and claimed them as his own and was shocked when together they had one more. His passion for winning the lottery was infamous and now he and Madeline, whom he greatly missed, are continuing their search together.

Graveside with military honors will be held 10:30 am Thursday, July 27, 2023 at the Green Lawn Cemetery. A Celebration to Honor Bill will be held at 12 noon Thursday, July 27 at the Rich Hill American Legion Hall Post #67. Memorial contributions are suggested to the American Legion Post #67.
