Southeast Kansas woman enters plea deal in forgery, theft case

A Southeast Kansas woman entered a plea of "no contest" after being charged of forgery and theft as part of a plea bargain.

According to Bourbon County court records, Alexa Leigh Metcalf was charged with two counts of theft of services and 16 counts of forgery dealing with checks in August 2022

At the time, authorities say the thefts allegedly came from the attorney office of Mason and Clark in Fort Scott between 2017 and 2021.

Metcalf was an employee of the firm.

Court documents show that Metcalf entered the "no contest" plea for one count of theft. The state agreed to drop all other charges.

As part of the agreement, parties must agree on an amount of restitution that Metcalf will pay during a probation period. That must be finalized by a sentencing hearing scheduled for August 22, 2023.

Failure to reach an agreement means the Court could determine the amount of restitution.
