Obituary - Norman E. Black

Celebration of life service for Norman E. Black of Butler, Missouri will be 11 a.m. Saturday, August 26, 2023 at the Happy Hill Church of God, 901 S. Norman Earl Black, age 73 of Butler, Missouri died Thursday, August 10, 2023 at Research Medical Center in Kansas City, Missouri. He was born February 9, 1950 to Roland Valoris and Norma Jean Silvernail Black in Hudson, Michigan.

Norman, one of three children, grew up in Hudson, Michigan where he attended grade school and part of high school. He graduated high school from God’s Bible School in Cincinnati, Ohio in 1968. Norman furthered his education and got a Bachelor’s and Master’s in Theology. He was a licensed practical nurse, pastor, Christian school principal and administrator, husband, father and foster parent. His most recent work was a pastor at the Appleton City Church of God (Holiness) until his retirement in 2019. Norman and Barbara moved to Butler, Missouri in 2019 and became members of the Happy Hill Church of God. On July 7, 1971 he married Barbara Louise Manners and to this union, one daughter was born.

Norman was known to be humorous, considerate and influential in the lives of many young people. He loved to study the Bible and was an avid reader. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. After retirement, one of Nornan’s greatest joys was to volunteer at Bates County Memorial Hospital and was the “Volunteer of the Year” in 2023.

Norman is survived by his wife, Barbara Black of Butler, Missouri; a daughter, Regina Marie Black of Utah; a grandson, John Michael Black; a great-granddaughter, Kennidie; and a brother, John Richard Black and wife Barbara of Ft. Meyers, Florida. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Edna Rose Rahmer.
