Harrisonville School Resource Officer Completes D.A.R.E. Instructor Program:

On 09-22-23, School Resource Officer Derek King graduated from Missouri’s Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E.) officer training program. The certification of new D.A.R.E. Officers requires the completion of a two-week, intensive training course.

D.A.R.E. education programs are designed to provide students with the knowledge and tools they need to make safe and responsible decisions. This includes the topics of bullying, effective communication, drug and alcohol resistance, etc.

Officer King has been with the Harrisonville Police Department since 2022. He previously worked in Blue Springs, Buckner, and Oak Grove. He spent the majority of his career with the Blue Springs School District Department of Public Safety as a School Resource Officer.

Officer King joins Officer Ramsey, Corporal Mikelson, Sergeant Jacobs, and Lieutenant Chance as a member of the Harrisonville Police Department D.A.R.E. team. Officer King will start teaching D.A.R.E. with our fifth graders this year at McEowen Elementary.

If you see him out and about, please give him a well-deserved congratulations. We are proud of you, Officer King!
