Chuck was born on June 17, 1945 at Research Hospital in Kansas City, MO, the son of Charles Wayne Reid and Marjorie (Chaffin) Reid. He attended Peculiar Elementary School and graduated from Raymore-Peculiar High School in 1963. A lifelong resident of Peculiar, he spent his entire life as a farmer on the family farm two miles east of Peculiar where he raised cattle.

Chuck was a member of the Peculiar Lions Club and an active member of the First Baptist Church of Peculiar. He started raising polled Hereford cattle as a young man and amassed a large herd. He attended polled Hereford sales and was known all over the country for his extensive knowledge of cattle breeds. He had a production sale on the family farm in 1968, an event of which he was always very proud. He was well known in at the American Royal cattle shows, Missouri State Fair, and other cattle events. He amassed a collection of cattle journals and cattle sale brochures. His large collection of cattle literature has grown to thousands and thousands. He studied the business and knew most of the cattle herd owners in the Midwest. He studied the cattle history books constantly and people were awed at his knowledge of the subject. He referred to his massive collection of cattle sale books and journals as his museum. He subscribed to hundreds of cattle periodicals. The arrival of his voluminous mail each day was a significant event in his life.

Chuck knew all the prominent and not-so-prominent families in Cass County and prided himself on attending their funeral visitations and being the first person to sign their guest books. He joined the First Baptist Church of Peculiar at a young age and missed very few Sunday morning and Wednesday evening services over his lifetime.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his nephew, Michael John Reid. He is survived by his brother, John Chaffin Reid, and sister-in-law, Cathleen A. Shine of Peculiar; and his niece, Emily A. Reid, of Washington, D.C.
