Al Palmer, age 70, of Belton, Missouri, formerly of St. Louis, Missouri passed away September 16, 2023, in hospice care after a long difficult but courageous battle with Parkinson's and dementia. There will be no service as Al was cremated per his wishes.
Al was born in St. Louis, Missouri on November 27, 1952, the son of Annie V. (Smith) and Owen Palmer. He was born on Thanksgiving Day and all who knew him were truly thankful for that small child with such a wonderful heart & soul... And the man he would become. Al was born to a hard-working mother who loved and raised her 5 children in the best conditions she could provide. But always with love.
Later in life, Al met the love of his life, Sherry, together they were married May 2, 1992, in a church just a few miles from where he eventually left this earth. For a few years he worked at a roofing company and then he started his own roofing company, A&S Roofing. Like so many things in his life he was a very good and honest roofer. Al was an all-round wonderful and generous man and will be missed.
When Al and Sherry were married, he also gained a daughter whom he loved dearly & she loved him as her "only" and wonderful father. Katy loved Al for being the Dad he didn't have to be but was. She will miss him deeply because he loved her more than anyone could & she felt very lucky to have had the "perfect stepdad".
Al loved traveling - Europe (Italy, London, Paris, Ireland, Scotland, Egypt, Israel, Turkey, the Caribbean, several cruises, many trips to Florida and the Carolinas). For a boy who had never traveled out of Missouri, the world was a wondrous place. At home he enjoyed pinochle and handball with friends, visiting with friends at the local dog park & petting all the dogs there who were drawn to him.
Al was preceded in death by his parents, Annie and Owen Palmer and by his 2 brothers, Mark and Pat Palmer. Al's dog, Harley, passed just a week before he did due to old age, perhaps they are together. He is survived by his loving wife of 31 years, Sherry Palmer; his step children, Katy Harmon and Gary Harmon. Also his two sisters Linda Roberts in Collinsville IL, and Marcia Drewry in Debary FL will miss him.
