Herrman’s Historical Happenings week of September 27

1891 The town of Amsterdam officially begins on a town plat John Rankin has filed.

1920 the 24th annual Bates Co Old Settler’s gather is held on the courthouse lawn.

1952 James D. Wells, son of Mr & Mrs J.H. Wells of Butler has graduated from basic submarine courses and will be assigned to either the Atlantic or Pacific oceans.

1972 The Bates County News-Headliner is now an official newspaper consolidating and purchasing the Rockville Leader newspaper.

1978 Marion Jones completes 30 years with the custodial staff of Butler elementary school. He has worked under  7 principals & 5 superintendents since 1948.

1991 The Bates County Sesquicentennial gets off to a tremendous start with the all-day Western Missouri Gas & Steam Engine Show in Adrian.

1991 The three day Amsterdam Centennial gets off to a good start.

1993 Mayor Pro-tem George Ray and Chamber of Commerce president Danny Robinson  give an official welcome to B&B Liquors on business 71 highway.

2004 Dr Curtis W. Long and Jack C. Baker, both of the Butler area, are selected as delegates  to the American Angus Association meeting in Louisville, Kentucky.
