Upon arrival, officers observed the truck in question parked at the dead end of Kendi Lane, missing its' hood. Officers could see two subjects inside the truck, a male and a female, who were later identified as Matthew Coyazo and Lindsey Bridegan. As officers approached, both subjects exited through the passenger door of the truck and began to flee. One officer pursued Coyazo on foot, who was subsequently caught without incident. Bridegan was later caught hiding in a detached garage nearby.
A computer inquiry of Bridegan revealed multiple warrants for her arrest. A search of Coyazo incident to arrest revealed multiple firearm holsters, which were all empty. Also located were six .380 cartridges in the arrestee's pocket and a pipe with residue. A computer inquiry of the truck's VIN number revealed it was reported stolen out of Kansas City.
During the inventory of the truck, Coyazo asked if officers could get his gray backpack inside the truck. When recovered, officers noticed a key fob for a 2015 Dodge 3500 truck that they later learned was stolen from a burglary in Grandview. There were additional items recovered from the truck that were linked to other criminal cases from our agency as well as surrounding agencies. The criminal investigations division gathered all evidence available and prepared a case file to present to the Cass County Prosecutor’s Office for review. On 10/11/2023, warrants were obtained for both Bridegan and Coyazo.
One warrant charged L. Bridegan with one count of resisting arrest, an A misdemeanor, and one count of tampering with a motor vehicle, also an A misdemeanor. The warrant was signed by the Honorable Judge J. Eftink and was given a $5,000 cash-only bond. The second warrant charged M. During an inventory of the stolen truck, firearms were located. Just outside of the passenger door in the grass, a loaded Taurus TCP handgun with a round in the chamber was recovered. This was found in the direct path the arrestees had taken to run from the truck. A computer check of the serial number on the handgun returned with no record on file. A computer inquiry into Coyazo’s criminal history revealed he was a convicted felon.
